VERSATILE
Trenchless technologies are becoming
more and more important in pipeline
installation and rehabilitation.

T
renchless
technologies,
also known as NODIG
technologies, are frequently
used for the underground installation
and rehabilitation of oil and gas pipelines.
In addition to their fundamental economic
and ecological benefits, permanent technical
improvements by innovative manufacturers guarantee
that the equipment keeps pace with the ever-increasing onsite
requirements.
Trenchless technologies are applicable for highly complex and
challenging pipeline construction and rehabilitation projects even in most
remote and geologically difficult areas of the world. In the following, the different
application ranges of these trenchless methods are described using practical
examples.
HDD in pipeline construction
Horizontal directional drilling (HDD) is an approved method
for the trenchless installation of pipelines, in particular
the so-called maxi and mega rigs, providing pulling
forces of up to 2.500 kN for installing pipes up
to Ø 2.200 mm. This steerable method is
