Pig valves are becoming an increasingly popular choice for midstream
companies, as
Allen Mueller, Tiger Valve Company, USA,
discusses.
T
iger Valve Company (TVC) engineered and manufactured its pig valve, known as the SHPV, in 2011. The SHPV was made in
response to the midstream end users’ need for a valve installed in a pipeline system for pigging purposes. The engineering,
design, production and testing of the valve is performed at one of TVC’s two manufacturing facilities overseas. The pig valve
is just one of the company’s multitude of valve related products used globally in the upstream, midstream, and downstream
markets. TVC has consistently invested to become a totally integrated valve company that produces API 6A, API 6D and other
related products to the industry. All products are manufactured to the applicable certifications of ISO, Q1, and API.
Where do you use a pig valve?
The SHPV is used in place of a conventional fabricated laucher/receiver pig trap. The SHPV has advantages for its use in flow,
gathering, and transmission pipelines (as discussed below), and is becoming a valve of choice for project and operations departments
of midstream companies.
A pig valve is installed in any application where pigging is necessary, either a liquid or a gas line. As the benefits of pig valves
spread, there are new applications arising constantly. Considering the SHPV is only 15 - 20 years into its development, the future
