Initially, TVC was to address the advantages of installation
of a SHPV pigging valve versus a conventional fabricated
launcher/receiver trap.
Valve design and construction
The TVC SHPV pigging valve is a trunnion-mounted design,
fully piggable, 3-piece forged body, API 6D designed and
tested ball valve. The SHPV is available in both receiver and
launching configurations. Standard body material is A350-LF2
with ENP coated trim with special HNBR orings and metal
seated with Devlon inserts. Full size ranges (2 - 16 in.) and ANSI
150#, 300#, 600#, 900# and 1500# flanged ratings are offered
with certified drawings. The material construction of the
entire valve satisfies the requirements of API 6D, NACE, API
607, and all valves are furnished with fully
traceable MTR’s. TVC’s factory is ISO, Q1 and
API certified.
Space limitations
Because of congested field installations,
right-of-way restrictions and space
limitations of remote geo layout, the
TVC SHPV offers a considerably reduced
‘footprint’ required for each installation.
The need for parallel lines and the compact
‘footprint’ of the TVC SHPV satisfies the
existing restrictions. Configuration of the
SHPV allows for flexibility in piping design
and installations.
Ease of operation
Compared to a fabricated trap, and using
custom-made pigs for the SHPV, the
typical SHPV pigging valve can be operated
safely with fewer personnel as compared
to a fabricated trap. Also, the valve is
designed with an equalization valve,
which allows the body to be vented to
reduce excessive torque during operation.
The SHPV is furnished with an ‘operation
friendly’ cap/davit assembly for 8 in. and
larger valves.
Economic value
There is a proven cost savings of installed
pigging valve packages versus the total
installed cost of a complete fabricated trap.
The all-in-one features of the TVC SHPV
considerably reduces fabrication labour and
material costs. In most cases of an existing
piping layout, the SHPV will fit into the face-
to-face space of a typical API 6D trunnion
ball valve.
Product availability
Size range required for the project is 4 - 12 in.
600# ANSI flanges. All quantities and sizes
were available for immediate shipment from the TVC Houston
facility. Additional quantities were estimated and TVC
placed additional inventory orders to reduce lead times. The
immediate availability of the SHPV was critical due to the ‘fast
track’ construction schedule.
Performance
Since 2013 and with hundreds of valves installed, TVC has
experienced no critical valve failures. Because of TVC’s design
and manufacturing skills, the SHPV has excellent reliability.
Because of TVC’s unique ability to control and manage the
entire manufacturing process, the SHPV has quickly gained
a strong reputation as being the ‘pigging valve of choice’ by
midstream field operation teams.
