FuelsManager Defense system and used for complete inventory
reconciliation.
We need to share
Any data captured by mobile devices is only useful if it can be
shared, analysed, or reported on, which means the device,
mobile application and data needs to be part of a wider
system, preferably already in use by a company. These systems
are not normally encountered by an app store web developer
and are also often enterprise based systems that require life
cycle support services, as seen in the following NATO Example.
Industry example: Capturing
information from the tip of the
supply chain to the enterprise
NATO required a complete fuels management and integrated
logistics system for its Afghanistan operations that would
consolidate in an enterprise system at NATO Headquarters in
Luxemburg. It would need to encompass tracking bulk fuel
inventories at military bases and deliveries of fuel to all
vehicles, aircraft, and equipment for on and off base activities,
for all defense forces each base supported. Varec was selected
to develop a solution based on its aviation and defense fuels
pedigree. A key component of the solution was the
development and support of an integrated mobile data capture
and validation element.
Due to the nature of the environment, ruggedised handheld
computers, tested to military specifications were deployed to the
fuel storage facilities and placed on fuel trucks. These units
perform multiple tasks. At the fuel facility they capture
receipt and delivery information from fuel meters and
inventory information from Varec's TacFuels® inventory
system. On the trucks they interface to flowmeters, scan
equipment barcodes, and credit cards. Every handheld
computer talks directly to the enterprise systems, using
cellular communications just like smart phones. This allows
a near real time view of inventories and transactions. Since
operators are often different nationalities and possess
different skill levels usability across the system was a critical
factor. The software needed to enforce workflows to
capture the required information but also empower each
user, simplify tasks, and make data entry a breeze.
Looking to the future
There are many applications crying out for mobile
technology in the oil and gas supply chain, from exploration
to consumption. And still many yet have not even been
envisioned. So, until smart phones are certified intrinsically
safe, and a new burst of industrial app development occurs,
companies must look to vendors with software
development, hardware, and systems integration expertise in
order to get a beneficial mobile solution. Even then, oil
companies must partner with B2B vendors to develop
specific functionality for their needs or change their
procedures to accept the limited functionality on offer from
consumer based sources.

For each application the right Floating Roof Seal
From primary to multiseal,
for ‘white’ storage products or crude oil,
for external or internal floating roofs,
with floating roof seals supplied by IMHOF you always solve your sealing problems
in the best possible way.
Storage tanks for ‘white’ products (semi-finished and finished products) will not suffer from
rainwater contamination.
Storage tanks for crude oil will not get soiled by parafin wax deposits.
Your emissions are drastically reduced, without the application of vapour balancing and
vapour recovery systems.
You will avoid additional emissions, utility costs and operational risks of plant.
