he rise of big data is a common story across the oil and gas industry. We know,
for instance, that almost nine out of ten industry executives have it as a top
three priority. Consultant Bain & Co estimates big data analytics could add
6 - 8% to oil and gas company production.
There are also common themes driving the need for better use of data to a greater
or lesser extent across the industry. These are well-recognised, long-term trends: the
increasing global demand for affordable energy, tighter environmental and safety
