and
various chlorides are all present in fossil fuels
delivered from subsea oil and gas fields and while a
sour service at high temperature is extremely corrosive,
the same service at high pressure is very erosive. A
combination of the two is a potentially expensive and
hazardous situation.
Gloucestershire-based Arc Energy Resources was
founded more than 20 years ago to provide specialist
weld overlay cladding and fabrication services to the
oil and gas, defence and nuclear industries. Today,
it employs 75 people and has an impressive list of
accreditations including ASME U and U2 Stamps, ISO
9001:2008, ISO 14001:2004, Investors in People Bronze
award and OHSAS 18001:2007. The company is now one
of the only weld overlay cladding specialists in the UK
with ISO 3834-2 certification from The Welding Institute
(TWI).
Arc Energy Resources is approved as a supplier
of specialist weld overlay cladding services to many
leading manufacturers of subsea systems,
equipment and technologies required to
explore, drill and develop offshore oil
and gas fields throughout the world. The
diversity of work the company can handle
sets it apart from many others, as it is
able to supply the full skill set. The need
for an in-depth understanding of so many
disciplines, and their equally wide and
demanding quality standards, requires vast
knowledge and experience.
Arc Energy’s team of welders and
fabricators are qualified to internationally
recognised standards and specifications.
A broad portfolio of base metal/cladding
combinations has been qualified to all
international standards, including ASME IX,
API 6A, ISO, DNV OS F-101 and NACE. In
addition, Arc Energy offers in-house test
weld, heat treatment, and PMI and NDT
facilities.
Among the advanced handling
equipment available to customers are two
Rotating Head welding machines installed at
a cost of £500 000 to increase productivity
and extending the scope of work the
company can handle. The investment
expands and enhances Arc Energy’s ability to
handle complicated component geometries
for the full or partial cladding and
fabrication of a huge range of component
sizes weighing up to 15 t.
The business offers high levels of
technical support to its clients. It maintains
an active welding engineering department
and a dedicated research and development
section. Another recent endorsement of the company’s
position as an international specialist is the presentation
to the company’s Managing Director Alan Robinson of
an award as the 2014 Best Welding Coordinator by the
European Federation for Welding, Joining and Cutting
(EWF).
Arc Energy Resources is one of the UK’s leading
specialists in weld overlay cladding and fabrication
for the oil and gas industry. The company’s expertise
provides protection against corrosion and wear for a
variety of process and pipeline equipment for use in any
hostile environment.
The company has made a major investment in two new
rotating head welding machines to increase productivity.
Commenting on the investment, Arc Energy Managing
Director Alan Robinson says success in winning several new
contracts prompted a review of the company’s capacity
to handle orders for cladding large and/or complex
components.
