ensuring the braking force is distributed
over as many rail chains as possible. In
the standard locomotives, the brake
systems are permanently connected to
the driving cars and therefore its
positioning depends on the driving cars.
In the FMS locomotive, the brake
systems can be fitted to driving cars or
additional special carriages, so it is
possible to place them anywhere in the
personnel haulage set.
The advantage of the above
configuration is the possibility of rapid
exchange of the personnel haulage set
into the material haulage set. Amajor
drawback is placing all of the brakes
within four to five rails onto which all
forces are to be transferred during an
emergency braking. Innovative solutions
offered by FAMUR allow optimising the
configuration of trains for transporting
people.
Figure 6 shows the optimal
configuration of the FMS suspended
locomotive with cabins. Driving
carriages placed at the front and end of
the set ensures a similar distribution of
pulling forces for driving in both travel
directions. Operator cabins installed at
both ends of the set ensure optimum
visibility for the operator and thus the
possibility of a rapid reaction to
emerging threats. The most important
element of the shown configuration is
the arrangement of the brakes evenly
along the entire set (also between man
cabins). Such an arrangement of the
braking systems means that, during an
emergency braking, the brake forces are
transmitted to many rails and chains.
Another aspect of this configuration is
the fixed connection of the locomotive
with a set of cabins. Personnel haulage is
a cyclical operation on the verge of
working shifts. The time between
successive transports
allows for the accurate
execution of necessary
operations and
maintenance procedures,
removal of possible defects
and malfunctions.

conveyors
In addition to the various
types of rail systems,
FAMUR also has a very
wide range of mining belt
conveyors, including
man-riding belt conveyors.
People may travel on the
upper belt only or the
upper and lower belt where
there is sufficient space, on
inclined roads with
gradient up to 18˚ upwards
and 12˚ downwards.
Man-riding conveyors are
equipped with special
boarding and alighting
platforms (Figure 7).
Additionally, there are gate
switches, circuit breakers,
compatible localisation
transmitters installed in the
mining lamps and
rope-pull switches installed
on the conveyors.
Headings are equipped
with loud speaker
communication systems,
installed at boarding and
alighting platforms along
the route at distances not
exceeding 100 m.
