WCA promotes coal’s role in
meeting global energy
World Coal Association (WCA) CEO, 
Benjamin Sporton, has called on
the World Bank to consider the key
role of coal in bringing affordable,
reliable electricity to developing and
emerging economies particularly
across Asia.

electricity supply has had a significant
impact on the UK’s power industry
with coal’s share of the energy mix
dropping to just 23%, according to
recent data from EnAppSys, a energy
market consultancy.

Surface Mining Reclamation and
Enforcement (OSMRE) proposed 
Stream Protection Rule, which
strengthens regulations protecting
streams from coal mining activities.

Norfolk Southern coal revenues
down in 2Q15
US railway operator, Norfolk
Southern, suffered a 33% drop in its
coal business in 2Q15 as the amount
of coal it carried dropped by 21% on
a continuing drop in demand for the
fuel from the power sector and lower
exports.
Job losses from coal dwarf gains
from wind
With job losses due to anti‑coal
regulations and costly wind subsidies
projected to reach well over one million,
wind advocates should drop the jobs
rhetoric and focus on creating a product
that no longer stakes its existence on a
federal subsidy.
