n June 2010 IHC Engineering Business, part of Royal
IHC, expanded its portfolio in the delivery of its first
complete J-lay system.
Founded in 1997, IHC Engineering Business
originally focused on the deployment and burial of subsea
telecom and electrical cables – the portfolio of expertise
centred mainly around cable ploughs and launch and
recovery systems.
The 2000 t capacity J-lay system, designed for the
Saipem
FDS2
vessel successfully operating across the globe,
is achieving and exceeding client specifications. As one
of the world’s most versatile pipelay systems to date, the
J-lay tower is capable of operating at line tensions of up
to 1500 t and supporting catenary tensions of up to 2000 t
