Coal News
A
round-up of news from coal projects
around the world.
Canada
Jameson Resources
Following negotiations with the sellers of
the Dunlevy coal project, Jameson Resources
has won a significant reduction in the
acquisition cost of the asset. The company
had been due to issue an additional
6 million shares to the vendors of the project
as per the 2011 purchase agreement, but this
has now been reduced to 600 000.
Mongolia
Aspire Mining
The Mongolian Government has confirmed
that a multi-departmental working group,
comprising representatives from the
Ministries of Roads and Transportation,
Environment and Finance, as well as the
country’s Investment Agency, has been
created to negotiate a rail concession with
Aspire Mining’s Northern Railways
subsidiary. It has invited Northern
Railways to begin negotiations in
accordance with the terms and conditions
for the Rail Concession Agreement along
with a request for draft agreements to
consider.
Ekhgoviin Chuluu Joint Venture
The Ekhgoviin Chuluu Joint Venture
(ECJV) has increased its interest in the
Nuurstei metallurgical coal project in
Mongolia to 90%. The ECJV is 50% owned
by Aspire Mining and 50% owned by the
Noble Group. The joint venture will pay
US$201 500 to a Mongolian vendor, whose
interest in the project will drop to 10%. A
further US$200 000 will be payable on
receipt of a mining licence for the project.
In March, the coal geology report for the
project was released, highlighting an
exploration target of between 15 million t
and 25 million t.
Guildford Coal
Guildford Coal will buy an 80% stake in the
Tsaidamnuur mine mouth coal-fired power
plant project from Tsaidam Energy LLC. The
project consists of three mining licences,
which contain an estimated 650 million t of
thermal coal and are located less than 1 km
from the proposed 600 MW Tsaidem
coal-fired power plant.
South Africa
Coal of Africa
Coal of Africa (CoAL) has been granted a
New Order Mining Right (NOMR) by the
South African Department of Mineral
Resources (DMR) for its flagship Makhado
hard coking and thermal coal project in
Limpopo Province. The DMR also granted
the Section 11 approval transferring the
right from CoAL to its wholly-owned
subsidiary Baobab Mining & Exploration
(Pty) Ltd, which will be the project
development company. CoAL completed a
definitive feasibility study on the Makhado
project in 2013 and anticipates developing
the mine to produce 2.3 million tpy of hard
coking coal and a further 3.2 million tpy of
thermal coal over the 16 yr life of the mine.
USA
