simulation, prior to being
implemented.”
Finally, XERAS for Enterprise now
offers a Model Repository to deliver
“total control over the version history,
storage and ownership of individual
XERAS models used throughout an
entire enterprise implementation,”
explained a company press release.
“XERAS models can now be stored in
a single location, not spread around
local drives and network share
folders.”
Conclusion
Innovation is the new key to survival,
claimed Deloitte recently, with it
coming in at number two of the top
ten issues facing the mining industry
in 2015: “For decades, mining
companies have understood the
imperative to adopt technologies to
accelerate automation and reduce
fatalities,” said the management
consultancy. “In today’s world,
however, value is measured on more
than these metrics. To improve
long-range planning and forecasting,
companies must explore emerging
information technologies, such as
cloud computing, embedded logic,
sensors, GPS systems, cyber security,
Big Data, simulation modelling and
3D visualisations [...] Taken together,
these technologies can help
companies reduce people, capital and
energy intensity, while increasing
mining intensity.”
And it seems that mining
companies are listening. Recent data
from Timetric suggest that mining
companies are now serious about
integrating digital mining solutions
into their operations. Using data from
630 mines worldwide, Timetric
analysed the investment priorities of
mining companies by technology
area. It found that various digital
mining solutions came top in
North America (collision
avoidance/proximity detection), Asia
(mine management solutions), Europe
(fleet management/vehicle
monitoring) and Latin America
(remote control equipment/machine
automation) – a clear indication that
Big Data is now firmly on the radar of
mining executives worldwide.
